Do you want to see what raw talent and skill looks like. If you have never watched Led Zeppelins’ the song remains the same DVD that should be first to do on your list after finishing this article. Or even just sit in a quiet room with no other distractions and play “Stairway to Heaven” off that album and let it dig in and grab your soul for 12 minutes.

No dancers

No chorography

No gimmicks

Just music.

Music powerful  enough to speak for itself. Music powerful enough to captivate an entire generation and earn a place at the table where those who are dubbed timeless get to sit.

Whether you “like” the might Led or not; if you can’t feel the music and energy they create, if you can’t respect what they have done in their time together you need to stop reading this article right is because its message is wasted on you.

It was the content, the music Led Zeppelin made that moved people. It was not the flash, the performance, or any of the extras. Those were all just icing on the cake to create something truly remarkable but their power lied in their music.  There was no hiding it and it did not need to be disguised and overdressed.

In fitness we need to take a lesson for the music giants of past and see that the content is what speaks to people. We use too much flash to distract from lack of knowledge and experience in maximizing the human machine. We spend hours on our playlists but only spend 5 minutes searching YouTube for “cool” new exercises to toss into our workouts. We choose them because they are sexy on video not because they fill a specific purpose to helping our clients and groups reach their goal and build a better body.

Sure the experience counts, it’s huge; but Never at the expense of the workout. A crappy band is a crappy band no matter how good the dancers are or how many lasers lights are on stage.

People are coming in to be moved, let’s move them with our “music” then give them a show on top of it; creating something they can’t wait to come back to.

That is where genius is created; the perfect amount of sizzle that is used to enhance not compensate.

The moral is the greats don’t choose between content or flash; they use flash to add something extra, something memorable to the show but what speaks to people, what brought them in and what keeps them coming back is amazing music. Why do we have to choose one or the other? Why can’t we do both?
